Computer for the Educator - Level I - EDU 580A1
3.0 Semester Units
This course includes general and specialized skills in the use of computers in educational settings. This course is not for the novice; to be successful you must know how to operate a computer, send email, connect to the Internet, and to the printer that you will be using. You will create and print documents, write a standards-based integrated lesson, send email and access the Internet.
Please note that this is not an online class, although you will need an e-mail account and access to the Internet in order to complete several lessons.
You will learn technology terms, create word processing, spreadsheet, database, drawing and desktop publishing documents. You will also research computer history, technology ethics, the use of computers in education, and much more.
By the end of the course, participants will have had opportunity to demonstrate how their knowledge and skills in computer technology has enhanced their educational progress.

USD Division of Continuing Education Clear Credential Classes have been approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Teachers are advised to gain prior approval from the college or university which issued their preliminary teaching credential for USD credit acceptability.

This is one of two independent study courses that can fulfill the Computer Competency requirement for clearing a Ryan credential. Each independent study course, which you can register for at anytime, is designed to take approximately 45 hours to complete.
Developed by a teacher, for teachers, these courses provide you with the maximum in flexibility for meeting credentialing requirements or for obtaining Professional Growth credit.
Upon registering, you can access course instructions through your USD account on our website to download and print off. Please allow 48 business hours after registering for e-mailed instructions to gain this access. Upon completion, coursework is mailed to the instructor for evaluation.
Which course do I need---EDU 580A1 or EDU 580AR?
I need to clear a credential issued prior to July 1, 2002 or to fulfill my Preliminary credential Technology Level I requirement.
You can use this course 580A1 - Level I.
I need to clear a credential issued after July 1, 2002.
You need to take EDU 580AR - Level II.
I am enrolled in a credentialing program and need a Level I class.
This course 580A1 can fulfill that requirement, but only with permission of your university.
I just need Professional Growth units.

Refund Policy
For Independent Study classes, withdrawal and refund requests must be in
writing, enclosed with all course work and materials in original condition
(i.e. tapes, books if appropriate), and received within 30 days of enrollment.
A $25 per course processing fee will be charged for tuition refunds. Refunds
