The University of San Diego operates on the semester system and credit is awarded in semester units with each unit indicating approximately fifteen hours of classroom time. Most school districts accept EDU 500-599 series courses as credit for Professional Development purposes. Prior district approval for salary advancement units is recommended and the responsibility of each student.

All students taking independent study courses are given nine (9) months from the date of enrollment to complete their course work. Due to the nature of independent study, you can complete a course quicker than a traditional live course, if needed, or for those that lead very busy lives, you can take the full nine months to complete your course work. Submission instructions will be provided to you with course materials. Instructors are available by phone and/or email for any course content related questions. A complimentary official transcript will be sent to you from USD upon successful completion of each course. Allow three to six weeks for transcripts.
